The weather is cold, your mood is low; you’re craving heat and something sweet. The answer: hot chocolate! But I am not talking about [well, typing about] any old sugar laden hot cocoa, I am talking about a nutritious, delicious and comforting beverage.
In addition to satisfying your sweet tooth, every ingredient in this drink will nourish your body: cacao is packed full of antioxidants, it’s high in iron, magnesium and calcium, maca is great for balancing hormones and contains vitamins b, c and e as well as calcium, zinc, iron, magnesium, phosphorous and amino acids, baobab is rich in vitamin c, b vitamins, calcium, magnesium and potassium, plus it’s a natural sweetener, and honey has anti bacterial and anti fungal properties.
Super easy, adaptable and can be enjoyed hot, as a hot chocolate, or ice cold, like a milk shake.
200ml almond milk (or milk of your choice)*
100ml hot water*
1 heaped tbsp cacao powder
Drizzle of honey/syrup (adjust to your sweetness preference)
1 tsp maca powder
½ tsp baobab powder
*300ml if making cold shake
*add a few ice cubes for shake
Options: 1 tsp coconut oil (for a more filling, creamy drink), 1/2 tsp açaí powder or ½ tsp goji powder (fruity sweet alternative to baobab), melt raw chocolate on top, sprinkle with bee pollen/chia/goji berries/cacao nibs.
Simply blend all the ingredients together and enjoy.
