Happy valentine’s lovers, from a not at all bitter singleton. I can’t believe another year has passed and I’m still single at 23, but rather than wallow in self-pity, I indulged in some self-love and made a mood lifting big bowl of berries and chocolate.
Berries and dark chocolate are like child hood sweethearts, always destined to be together. The contrast of sweet juicy berries and rich creamy chocolate make the perfect food offering for any loved one.
This bowl is packed full of anti-oxidants to fight cell damaging, disease causing, ageing free radicals so you and your loved one can still be celebrating valentine’s day when you’re 100, even if you are blind as a bat, deaf and incontinent.
Cacao has 40 times more antioxidants than blueberries, more calcium than cow’s milk and is the best source of plant-based iron, containing more iron than a serving of red meat. Furthermore, cacao contains moods boosting chemicals like serotonin for a very happy Valentine’s day, and is rich in magnesium to protect the heart and brain.
Beets, not only provide the deep berry colour of this bowl, but are a good source of dietary fibre, potassium, magnesium, iron, vitamin B-6 and vitamin C. They also contain nitrates that convert into nitric acid in the blood and aid relaxation of blood vessels, which helps lower blood pressure.
So take a beet son, cause this Valentine’s smoothie is going to be berry good; you’ll love it a chocolot.
For the full recipe you’ll have to buy the book. Sorry. I am being that person; a big tease.
