Turmeric is cropping up everywhere at the moment: in lattes, cakes, breads, soups, juices and of course, smoothie bowls. It’s even snuck its way into skincare, turmeric face mask anyone?
Its rise to fame is largely down to its anti-inflammatory properties that promote a healthy digestive system, which reduces your risk of illness and disease. Turmeric is also popular amongst the social media elite for promoting glowing skin, as well as looking aesthetically pleasing on an insta feed.
I like to think of this smoothie as delicious medicine in a bowl:
- anti-inflammatory spices
- hormone balancing maca
- blood sugar balancing cinnamon
- micronutrient packed fruits
- fibre rich chia seeds
- protein providing nuts and seeds
- heart, brain and skin benefitting healthy fat

2.add it to curries
3.add it paella/rice dishes for bright yellow rice
5.treat yourself to turmeric nice cream
6.sip on an anti-inflammatory cocktail
*turmeric is fat soluble so it is best paired with a healthy fat to aid your body’s absorption of it, for even better absorption pair it with ¼ tsp of black pepper.
For the smoothie
1 cup milk of your choice (I used Alpro unsweetened almond)
1 frozen banana
½ cup frozen pineapple
1 tsp raw coconut oil
½ tsp turmeric powder
½ tsp cinnamon powder
¼ – ½ tsp ginger powder (more if like the gingery heat, less if you don’t)
1 tsp maca powder
1 tsp chia seeds
½ tbsp vanilla protein powder (optional)
1 tbsp flaked almonds
1 tbsp mixed seeds (flax/pumpkin/sunflower/sesame)
Generous pinch of desiccated coconut
Sprinkling of cinnamon (optional)
Any nuts/seeds you fancy
Any fruit you fancy, pineapple/banana/mango/berries/dates/currants
Any health boosting extras: oats/buckwheat groats/milk thistle powder/bee pollen/cacao nibs e.t.c
Maybe a cheeky drizzle of raw chocolate
I think this will be the shortest method in history because all you need to do is put all the smoothie ingredients into a blender, give it a good whizz, transfer it to a bowl and you’re done.
